Kazakh Writer Mukhtar Magauin Passed Away at 84
Mukhtar Magauin has passed away at the age of 84. He spent the last year of his life in Maryland, the United States.
The news of his passing was announced on social media by his son, Yedige Magauin:
My father passed away on January 9, at his home in Maryland, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
One of the writer's last interviews was published by Halyq-uni in January last year.
In that interview, Mukhtar Magauin shared his thoughts on key historical events and the impact of prominent figures on Kazakhstan. He spoke very harshly about Nursultan Nazarbayev, calling him the heir to the colonial era.
