The Israeli Air Force has struck the General Staff headquarters of the Syrian Armed Forces in Damascus, Orda.kz reports.
the Israeli strike reportedly hit the front gate or entry area of the Syrian Army’s General Staff Command building — not the entire structure.
The moment of the strike was broadcast live by a local television channel. Several people were injured, according to Syria’s SANA news agency.
There were no signs of a full-scale collapse
Additional strikes reportedly targeted the presidential palace and other government buildings in Damascus. Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated:
“The warnings to Damascus are over — painful strikes will follow.”
He said the IDF would continue operations in southern Syria’s Sweida province until the forces that attacked Druze civilians were completely eliminated.
IDF statements confirmed the ongoing campaign targeting Syrian military assets in Sweida.
Israeli channel N12 reported that the commander of the 40th Division’s artillery battalion in Daraa province, Muammar Ibrahim, was killed in one of the strikes.
The escalation follows violent clashes in Sweida beginning July 13, when Bedouin groups and local Druze militias clashed. Syrian government forces were deployed to restore order, prompting accusations of abuse and excessive force.
Druze spiritual leader Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri called on Druze fighters to resist, accusing pro-government militias of “genocide” against the community.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged Israel’s Druze population not to cross the border into Syria, assuring them:
“You can count on the IDF and the Israeli Air Force to protect your Druze brothers in Syria. We gave our word—and we will keep it.”
