IAEA to Support Kazakhstan During NPP Construction
Kazakhstan will receive assistance from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at every stage of its nuclear power plant project, Orda.kz reports.
The agreement was reached during a meeting in Vienna between Azamat Satkaliyev, head of Kazakhstan’s Atomic Energy Agency, and Rafael Grossi, Director General of the IAEA.
The talks, held on the sidelines of the IAEA General Conference, focused on Kazakhstan’s nuclear plans — including the launch of a power plant, development of infrastructure, and wider use of nuclear technologies in medicine, agriculture, and industry.

Grossi emphasized that Kazakhstan is steadily advancing its nuclear program and confirmed the agency’s readiness to provide support “from site selection to commissioning.”
The meeting also addressed uranium resource management, stable fuel supply to global markets, and balancing Kazakhstan’s national priorities with international obligations.
Kazakhstan announced initiatives such as forming an international consortium for plant construction, launching research projects, and developing a facility for safe nuclear fuel storage.
Both sides agreed to prepare a three-year “road map” for cooperation and to carry out a series of expert missions through 2027. Grossi was also formally invited to visit Kazakhstan.
