For the first time in history, a Kazakhstani athlete has received this honorary status, Orda.kz reports, citing the National Olympic Committee.

Gennady Golovkin’s amateur career is considered one of the most successful in the middleweight division: 350 fights, 345 wins, and many years as a leading member of Kazakhstan’s national team.

As a professional, he became one of the dominant champions of the 21st century, recording 45 fights with 37 knockouts and holding the WBA, WBC, IBF, IBO, and The Ring titles.

A 23-fight knockout streak, 21 successful title defenses, and a stoppage rate exceeding 90% solidified his reputation as one of the modern era’s greatest boxers.

Golovkin now serves as president of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan and the World Boxing Federation. He is the first Kazakhstani to lead an international sports organization.

Why Golovkin’s appointment to head World Boxing is not merely a career milestone but also part of a broader political game involving Aqorda, Saudi Arabia, and the region’s Olympic ambitions is explored in Orda’s separate analysis.

The International Boxing Hall of Fame is a hall of fame and museum established to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the sport.
