Former Shymkent Judge Sentenced to 7.5 Years for Fraud

In Shymkent, a court sentenced former judge of the inter-district criminal court Zhanat Musirali. She was found guilty of fraud, Orda.kz reports.
The case involved Musirali and two accomplices attempting to defraud money by promising to help a defendant avoid prison.
Altayev promised his friend's wife to assist in assigning a punishment that does not involve imprisonment, The press service of the Shymkent City Court clarified.
In addition to Musirali's 7.5-year sentence, lawyer Murat Dzhakhaev received 6 years and 8 months, while businessman Aidar Altayev was sentenced to 5 years.
The convicted will serve their sentences in medium-security penal institutions, the court's verdict states.
While initially charged with both fraud and incitement to bribery, the defendants were acquitted of the bribery charge.
Since it has been established that the defendants did not persuade the victim to give a bribe and the initiative to transfer the funds came from the latter, explained in court.
Musirali resigned as a judge in August 2024 and was previously known for presiding over a notable 2023 case.
In it, she sentenced a bus driver to five years for causing the deaths of six people in a traffic accident.
