Sinologist Adil Kaukenov explained how foreign guests were greeted in Astana before the SCO summit, Orda.kz reports.
Upon Xi Jinping's arrival, young people greeted him, children demonstrated their knowledge of the Chinese language, and fighter jets flew in the sky. He was the only leader personally greeted by Qasym-Jomart Toqayev before the summit.
Adil Kaukenov, an expert in the field, underscores the reciprocal nature of the hospitality exchange between Kazakhstan and China. He notes in his Telegram channel that Kazakhstan's leader is also greeted with unique hospitality in China, a gesture that is 'very difficult to match. Qasym-Jomart Toqayev receives honorary places at group meetings, which, Kaukenov believes, significantly enhances Kazakhstan's status in the eyes of other countries.
Therefore, it is vital to show the Chinese guest that all these gestures were appreciated and that Kazakhs also know how to be hospitable, and also to highlight their unique attitude and gratitude. Incidentally, this is a hint to other countries that Toqayev will visit in the future: if you want particular treatment at summits in Kazakhstan, then you should treat the Kazakh president in a particular way, Kaukenov writes.
Toqayev personally met his Chinese counterpart at the airport because Xi Jinping was on a state visit.
Unlike other heads of state, Chairperson Xi Jinping did not simply come to a working meeting within the SCO but is on a state visit to Kazakhstan. Many who do not understand this nuance have invented entire conspiracy theories. But at the same time, the fact that it was Chairperson Xi Jinping who visited Kazakhstan at the level of a state visit, of course, speaks volumes about the level of Kazakh-Chinese relations,
the political scientist noted.
Kaukenov also recalled which Kazakh officials met foreign guests in Astana.
Prime Minister Bektenov received Presidents Vladimir Putin, Shehbaz Sharif, Emomali Rahmon, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Sadyr Japarov, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Deputy Prime Minister Koishybayev met Presidents Alexander Lukashenko and Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh. Deputy Prime Minister Bozumbayev received President Ilham Aliyev. Deputy Prime Minister Zhumangarin met Acting President of Iran Mohammad Mokhber.
Minister of Digital Development Madiyev met with the Emir of Ras al-Khaimah Saud bin Saqr al-Qasimi. First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Rakhmetullin met with the First Secretary of the UN, Antonio Guterres, in Almaty.
