During his visit to Kazakhstan, EU Special Envoy for Sanctions David O'Sullivan clarified the European Union's stance on Kazakhstan's position regarding Russia sanctions, Orda.kz reports.
O'Sullivan emphasized that the EU has no intention of pressuring Kazakhstan to adopt sanctions against Russia:
We do not intend to interfere in the legitimate trade relations between Kazakhstan and Russia that have developed over many years.
While respecting Kazakhstan's position, O'Sullivan expressed concerns about potential evasion.
He particularly highlighted the risk of restricted high-tech components that could have military applications being redirected to Russia:
Some unscrupulous business representatives may resell goods from the EU to Russia. Especially high-tech products that can be used in weapons. We are pleased with the cooperation with Kazakhstan in preventing such schemes.
