Kazakhstan’s first nuclear power plant is expected to be built in partnership with Russia’s Rosatom, while the second and third facilities will involve a Chinese company, First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar said during a government press conference, Orda.kz reports.

According to Sklyar, it is too early to estimate the total cost of the projects, as the feasibility studies and technical documentation are still in progress. He noted that intergovernmental agreements with China are currently undergoing internal approvals.

Once finalized, the documents will be submitted to parliament for ratification.

The third station will also be from China. Our colleagues from the Atomic Energy Agency are working on identifying suitable locations,” Sklyar said. “A stable source of water and electricity is required, and those conditions are being finalized. I believe the location announcements will be made later this year. There’s no secrecy here.

Final decisions on the deployment sites are expected to be announced by the end of 2025.
