Bulgaria’s parliament has voted by majority to overturn President Rumen Radev’s veto on a bill regulating the possible sale of Lukoil’s assets in the country, Orda.kz reports, citing Bntnews.
Radev had previously vetoed the legislation, which was passed by parliament in late October. The law requires that any transactions involving Lukoil’s Bulgarian assets be carried out only under the supervision of the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and with approval from the Council of Ministers.
The president argued that the provision placed the government in a position of dependence on the security service, which he said contradicts the constitution.
With the veto now overridden, the restrictions take effect immediately.
Lawmakers backing the bill say the measures aim to prevent the resale of Russian-owned enterprises in violation of international sanctions.
