The administration of the Almaty region has officially transferred the Baganashyl orphanage to the jurisdiction of the city of Almaty, Orda.kz reports.
The move comes amid concerns from the children residing at the facility. In a video message posted the day before, they expressed fears that upcoming renovations could lead to their temporary relocation to other institutions.
Orda.kz sent formal inquiries to both the Almaty and Almaty region akimats and their respective education departments. A response came promptly.
To create modern and safe conditions for the children, the reconstruction of the orphanage building is planned. The work will begin next year after a technical inspection, preparation of documentation, examination and competitive procedures. The issue of temporary placement of children will be resolved taking into account all safety requirements and living conditions. Children will not be separated,
the Almaty city administration stated.
Officials also emphasized that the children will continue to attend their current schools, and a transfer to the newly built facility in Qonayev is not under consideration.
