Australian company C29 Metals has received a Category 2 environmental permit for uranium exploration in the Jambyl region. This will allow it to begin drilling test wells near the Aqsueq settlement, Orda.kz reports.
C29 Metals has reached a decisive negotiation stage with JSC Volkovgeologiya, a Kazatomprom subsidiary, and is ready to begin operations on the proposed uranium deposit. It is already negotiating with an independent contractor who will drill the wells.
The company noted that the initial strategic drilling program will be short-term. C29 Metals will only examine a few areas up to 500 meters deep in specific locations to test for mineralization.
The site is located approximately 15 kilometers from the Bota-Burum uranium deposit, one of the largest in the post-Soviet space, with an estimated potential of 20,000 tons of uranium. Uranium has been mined near Aqsueq since 1956.
The private company C29 Metals is registered in Astana, but its management and board of directors are Australian specialists.
The CEO is James Philip Myers. C29 Metals has a subsidiary company, Ulytau Resources, led by a Kazakhstani specialist. It will likely formally develop uranium deposits in the Jambyl region.
