Astana Format on Syria: Foreign Ministers to Meet in Qatar

The foreign ministers of the countries participating in the Astana Format on Syria, namely Russia, Iran, and Türkiye, will meet on December 7 in Qatar, Orda.kz reports, citing TASS.
The official representative of the Russian diplomatic department, Maria Zakharova, informed the agency about the meeting scheduled on the sidelines of the 22nd Doha Forum. Meanwhile, reports continue to emerge on rebel advancements in Syria.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Iranian and Turkish Foreign Ministers Abbas Araghchi and Hakan Fidan, and UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen will reportedly discuss the situation.
The 22nd international meeting on Syria, held in Astana Format, was held in the capital of Kazakhstan in November this year. The 23rd meeting will also be in Astana in the first half of 2025.
The Astana Format Negotiations aimed to end the armed conflict have been ongoing since 2017.
The Astana Format includes Russia, Iran, and Turkey as guarantor countries, as well as representatives of the Syrian government and opposition, the UN, and observer countries — Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq.
