Aqtobe Region: Official Took Bribes for Restoration of Village Affected by Floods
The Uilsky district sustained significant damage from the spring floods; houses and roads were destroyed.
Diapazon writes that while large-scale flood relief work was underway, a local official received bribes from contractors.
The now-former head of the Department of Architecture, Construction, Housing, Communal Services, and Highways of the Uilsky district, 42-year-old Ainat Kazmagambetov, was indicted on charges of accepting bribes.
He took up this position on March 11 of this year, and less than a month later, he committed his first corruption crime.
The criminal court in Aqtobe heard the official's case.
In April and August, Kazmagambetov received bribes from the directors of two limited liability companies. With them, the housing and utilities department had concluded contracts for restoration work in the village.
In the first case it was 100 thousand tenge, in the second – half a million.
The official pleaded guilty and entered into a procedural agreement with the Prosecutor's Office to receive the minimum possible punishment.
On November 15, Judge Abdykalykov sentenced Ainat Kazmagambetov, who received a fine of 21 million tenge and a lifetime ban on working in civil service.
The director of the contracting company was also convicted of bribery. He was punished with a fine of 10 million tenge and banned from working in the civil service in the future.
The sentence has not yet entered into legal force.
