Talgar District: New Prosecutor Appointed After Qyzylqairat Tragedy

A new prosecutor, Zhainarbek Mynbayev, has been appointed in the Talgar district of the Almaty region, Orda.kz reports.
This is already the third person to hold the position in two years. The appointment comes a month after a brutal crime in the village of Qyzylqairat, where a man kidnapped a two-year-old girl, having killed her uncle. The main suspect faces 12 criminal charges, including homicide, sexual assault, and involving minors in a crime.
A separate case has been opened against police officers for inaction.
The previous prosecutor, Yerlan Tagayev, served for one year. He was appointed following another high-profile incident — the killing of 16-year-old Sherzat Polat in October 2024. The teenager was fatally wounded during a nighttime brawl in central Talgar. The main suspect was later sentenced to 23 years in prison.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies report an overall decline in crime.
According to official data, the number of recorded offenses in the district has fallen by 17% since the beginning of the year, with robberies down by 23% and drug-related crimes nearly halved.
