Russian President Vladimir Putin visited a command post in the Kursk region last night, marking his first trip to the area since Ukrainian forces entered in August 2023, according to Russian state media.
Kremlin-released footage shows Putin in military attire entering the command center, where he was met by Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov. During the visit, Putin received a briefing on the military situation and held a meeting regarding operations in the region.
According to Gerasimov, Russian forces now control over 86% of the territory previously occupied by Ukrainian troops. Over the past five days, the Russian military has reportedly taken control of 24 settlements and approximately 260 square kilometers of land.
Putin stated that he expects all military objectives to be achieved and for Kursk to be "fully liberated" soon.
He also emphasized the importance of establishing a security zone along the state border.
