Police Dismantle Criminal Group Selling Personal Data Online
The Interior Ministry’s Department for Combating Cybercrime, in cooperation with the National Security Committee, has dismantled a criminal group involved in selling personal data of Kazakhstanis, Orda.kz reports.
The data was sourced from government databases and distributed through Telegram channels.
Some of the information was also transferred to private debt collection companies.
More than 140 individuals were detained, including company owners and Telegram channel administrators. Five suspects have been arrested. During searches of collection firms, over 400 units of computer and electronic equipment were seized, said Zhandos Suyinbay, head of the cybercrime unit.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated on charges of unauthorized access to information systems, violation of privacy, breaches of personal data legislation, and the unlawful distribution of restricted digital content.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to identify all those involved.
