According to the Financial Times, which cited an unnamed German official, a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio may take place in Budapest on October 30, Orda.kz reports.
The source added that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was expected to outline his plans ahead of a possible Trump–Putin meeting, though the details remain unconfirmed.
Previous reports suggested that the Lavrov–Rubio meeting, intended as a lead-up to the potential Putin–Trump summit, had been postponed due to Moscow’s firm stance and unwillingness to compromise.
Responding to these claims, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov remarked that “it’s impossible to postpone something that was never agreed upon.”
Lavrov later stated that he and Marco Rubio had agreed to maintain ongoing communication.
Meanwhile, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has warned that Putin's flight to Hungary for Trump talks could be diverted to The Hague, writes The Kyiv Independent.
I cannot guarantee that an independent Polish court won't order the government to escort such an aircraft down to hand (Putin) over to the court in The Hague, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said.
