Komil Ismoilovich Allamjonov has been appointed minister-counselor at Uzbekistan’s Embassy in Washington, serving as the Administration of the President’s representative in the United States, Orda.kz reports, citing Gazeta.uz.

The appointment was authorized by Saida Mirziyoyeva, head of the Presidential Administration, according to presidential press secretary Sherzod Asadov.

Allamjonov will continue in his current role as an independent adviser to the head of the Presidential Administration — a position he has held since June — while taking on this new diplomatic post.

The role of minister-counselor and presidential representative in the U.S. comes into effect on January 1 of next year under a presidential decree aimed at strengthening coordination of foreign policy and state initiatives.

His responsibilities will include initiating and discussing major investment and trade projects between Uzbekistan and the United States, as well as overseeing Uzbekistan’s participation in the American-Uzbek Business and Investment Council.

The council is co-chaired by Saida Mirziyoyeva on the Uzbek side and U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, on the American side.

In September, it was also reported that Allamjonov had been appointed a special adviser to the Central Asia Program at George Washington University.
