Since January 8, 2024, the Russian border service has enforced a complete ban on foreign carriers, including those from Kazakhstan, from crossing the Russian-Belarusian border.

All transit between Kazakhstan and Europe via Belarus was blocked, Orda.kz reports, citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Trade and Integration.

Following negotiations between Kazakhstan and Russia on January 12, 2024, the Ezerishche-Nevel (Lobok) border crossing was reopened for Kazakh carriers. Kazakhstan also appealed to the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), arguing that Russia’s actions violated the Treaty on the EAEU regarding free movement.

Russia lifted the restrictions under the Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Visas between the Russian Federation and Belarus. This agreement governs border crossings for foreign citizens and stateless persons, allowing access to previously restricted land crossings.

On February 25, 2025, the EEC confirmed the removal of these restrictions.

Kazakhstan's carriers can now freely cross the Russian-Belarusian border through six checkpoints: Yukhovichi-Dolostsi, Ezerishche-Nevel, Liozno-Kruglovka, Redki-Krasnaya Gorka, Zvenchatka-Dubovichka, and Selishche-Novozybkov.
