The details of the agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Russia concerning the construction of coal-fired thermal power plants in three cities were shared by the Aqmola region Akim Marat Akhmetzhanov, Orda.kz reports.
The Russian group of companies, Inter RAO, will build the thermal power plants. Marat Akhmetzhanov says the project's active phase will start in the summer of 2025.
This company is subsidized by the government at seven percent. There are no other offers with such a low interest rate for 20 years. In addition, the company has extensive technological experience in this area, Akhmetzhanov said.
The thermal power plants will run on coal and then be connected to gas.
Last year, the Presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia signed a memorandum on constructing three thermal power plants in Kazakhstan.
The document includes the terms of providing Kazakhstan with a loan from the Russian Federation on preferential terms.
They should come online in 2028.
