Japanese Sanctions Target Kazakhstani Company Over Alleged Russian Ties

Japan has included a Kazakhstani company in its latest round of sanctions related to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, reports Orda.kz.
The new sanctions package, approved by the Japanese cabinet on January 10, targets companies suspected of helping Russia evade international restrictions, according to Nikkei.
The measures include freezing the assets of 11 individuals and 29 organizations, including three Russian banks, and banning exports of 335 types of goods, such as machine parts and chemicals.
The measures also extend to companies in six countries believed to be helping Russia circumvent sanctions.
While the specific Kazakhstani company wasn't named, the list includes 18 Chinese companies, eight Turkish firms, two Kyrgyz companies, and one company each from the UAE and Thailand.
The aim is to strengthen Japan's response to North Korea's support for Russia and Moscow's use of third countries to evade sanctions., The Japan Times reports.
Additionally, TASS notes that the sanctions freeze the assets of one North Korean individual and Georgia's MRB Bank.
This isn't Japan's first action against a Kazakhstani company over alleged Russian ties.
In June 2024, Japanese authorities sanctioned Elem Group, a company that was also under U.S. sanctions at the time.
