The Forestry and Wildlife Committee under the Ministry of Ecology shared footage of the elusive predator captured by a reserve employee.

The honey badger inhabits the southern and southwestern regions of Ustyurt, favoring deep gorges, karst formations, ravines, and areas with diverse vegetation such as saxaul, boyalych, and Qaragana. It is mostly active during twilight and nighttime, though it may venture out during the day in winter. Honey badgers breed once a year and can briefly hibernate during the colder months,  the committee explained.

They emphasized the rarity of encountering this species in Kazakhstan, noting that it occupies a limited range.

They added that the Ustyurt Nature Reserve is crucial in preserving biodiversity.

Experts describe the honey badger as a fearless and tenacious creature despite its small size. The Guinness Book of Records dubbed it “the most fearless mammal in the world” in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
