TurkmenGaz and Gazprom Fail to Renew Gas Supply Contract

Turkmengaz and Gazprom did not extend the contract to supply Turkmen gas to Russia. The parties disagreed on pricing, said the Turkmengaz head, Maksat Babayev. Khronika Turkmenistana reports this, citing Vzglyad.az.
Babayev claimed that Turkmenagaz has other options in multiple directions: the north, west, and east.
We are in negotiations with various buyers and countries every day, so everything is possible, Babayev said.
In 2019, Gazprom signed a five-year contract to purchase natural gas from Turkmengaz. The agreement stipulated Turkmen gas supplies at 5.5 billion cubic meters per year. According to Gazeta.uz, Uzbekistan and Turkmengaz were previously hashing out the possibility of a long-term contract for gas imports.
After Russian gas imports came into play for Uzbekistan, Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov tried to explain why the country buys gas from Russia when Turkmenistan, with large gas reserves, is nearby.
