A tragic shooting occurred overnight in Kazakhstan’s Turkistan region, where unknown assailants opened fire on a group of young people in the Tyulkubas district, Orda.kz reports.
Seventeen-year-old Torehan Toreali died instantly from his injuries.
Wrong Place, Wrong Time
According to eyewitnesses, three masked men with guns emerged from a car and began shooting. Several of the young men managed to hide, but four were hit by bullets — including Torehan, who had turned 17 just two months earlier.
My child was simply in the wrong place. He hid under a car, but one of them pulled him out by the neck, threw him to the ground, and shot him in the heart. It was all done in cold blood. They were going to kill another boy too, but the bullet missed. After that, they got into the car and drove away, said the young man's mother, Elmira Aidaraliyeva, who believes her son was killed without reason.
The shooting happened on the evening of November 2.
Torehan and his older brother had gone to a pharmacy because his eyes were hurting. Two hours later, the family learned there had been a shooting outside.
When the parents arrived at the hospital, one son was alive — the other was not.
They Shot At Random
That same night, three more young men were injured after being shot in the legs. One has already been discharged from the hospital but says he is now afraid to leave his house.
We were just standing and talking. A car pulled up, three masked men got out, and started shooting. We fell, but they kept firing. Now the whole village is afraid. The police themselves are saying, ‘Don’t go outside for now, in case they come back,’
he said.
The Aftermath
Residents believe the attackers were well-prepared and acted deliberately, possibly mistaking their target.
The Turkistan Regional Police Department reported that the suspects have been identified. One has been detained, while another remains at large.
The boys injured that night did not call an ambulance, fearing the shooters might return. They went to the hospital on their own.
Torehan Toreali, a welder by trade, had simply gone out to buy eye drops. He died in his brother’s arms.
