It is presumed that the young woman may have been connected to the work of Alexei Navalny’s headquarters, reports Orda.kz.
Followers informed the Orda newsroom about the detention of a Russian woman at Almaty airport. According to them, the woman is an activist and was planned to be promptly extradited to Russia.
“Her name is Yulia Yemelyanova, she has a criminal case for working in Navalny’s headquarters,” said a message sent to the editorial chatbot.
More detailed information about the detainee has not yet been provided.
Orda requested a comment from the Transport Police Department. They confirmed the detention of a foreign national at Almaty airport, as well as preparations for extradition.
The reason was stated as follows:
“During a check, it was established that the woman is on an interstate wanted list on suspicion of committing property crimes.”
She is currently in a temporary detention facility.
On May 13, Chechen activist Mansur Movlaev was detained in Almaty. He soon applied for asylum in Kazakhstan. In mid-August, Movlaev’s status as an asylum seeker was extended.
Also, since last year, the founder of the Oxford Team language school, Yevgeny Nakaznenko, and anti-war activist Pavel Vladimirov have been held in pre-trial detention in Almaty under extradition arrest.
