Russia Claims Control of Sudzha

The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced that its forces have taken control of Sudzha, a strategically significant city in the Kursk region, along with two nearby villages, Orda.kz reports, citing Interfax.
According to the Ministry, Russian forces have made steady advances in recent days, regaining control over 24 settlements previously occupied by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Military operations in the Kursk region remain ongoing.
Sudzha, the administrative center of the Sudzhansky District, holds strategic importance due to its proximity to the border. The Russian government has emphasized its intent to solidify control in the region.
During a recent visit to the Kursk region’s military command center, President Vladimir Putin ordered an acceleration of Russian military operations. He reportedly instructed commanders to consider soldiers and foreign fighters terrorists and not apply the Geneva Conventions to captured fighters.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has cautiously welcomed the 30-day ceasefire proposal brokered by the United States. He expressed hope that it could lead to a broader peace agreement, though fighting continues in multiple regions.
Diplomatic efforts are also underway, with U.S. officials, including Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the ceasefire. Former U.S. President Donald Trump has warned of severe financial measures against Russia if it does not comply with peace negotiations.
