On January 24 in Astana, officials discussed expanding Russian participation in Kazakhstan's oil and gas field development and power projects, reports Orda.kz.
Kazakhstan's Vice Ministers of Energy Sungat Yessimkhanov and Yerlan Akkenzhenov met with Russian Deputy Energy Minister Roman Marshavin.
The meeting focused on cooperation in oil, petroleum products, petrochemical supplies, and energy resource transit.
In 2021, Russia's Lukoil and Kazakhstan's KazMunayGas signed a binding agreement on principles for the significant Kalamkas-Sea project in Kazakhstan's Caspian Sea sector.
Current plans indicate offshore platform construction will begin in 2026 at Kazakh shipyards to expedite production at Kalamkas-Sea. The project expects to attract over $6 billion in direct investment, according to TASS.
Lukoil has operated in Kazakhstan since 1995.
With KazMunayGas, it participates in Karachaganak, Tengiz, Zhenis, and Al-Farabi projects, the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, and joint ventures developing Khvalynsky, Central, Kalamkas-Sea, and Khazar fields.
