Qyzylorda Schoolgirl: Regional Court Upholds Sentences in Sexual Exploitation Case

The Qyzylorda Regional Court has upheld the sentences of individuals convicted in a case involving the exploitation of a 16-year-old girl, Orda.kz reports.

The defense appealed the original ruling, seeking partial acquittal and reduced sentences.

The panel of judges declined to alter the verdict, citing sufficient evidence to confirm the convictions.

This included testimony from the victim and witnesses, as well as forensic examination results.

The punishment of the convicted persons is assigned within the limits of the sanctions of the articles of the Criminal Code, in accordance with the nature and degree of public danger of the committed offense, their personalities, the role of each in the commission of the crime, circumstances mitigating and aggravating the criminal punishment, necessary and sufficient for the correction of the convicted persons,the court stated.

The ruling has now entered into legal force. 

Among those convicted were minors. The charges included extortion, mistreatment, and sexual exploitation. Due to the nature of the case, the trial was held behind closed doors.

Sentences handed down included:

  • Three minors: six years and eight months of imprisonment each
  • Three other defendants: four years and eight months each
  • Three adults: seven years and six months each
