Previously, only lawyers could act as defense attorneys, Orda.kz reports.
The new rules became part of the amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses that came into force last week.
According to the updated Article 748 of the Administrative Offenses Code, lawyers and legal consultants can act as defence attorneys in administrative courts.
Previously, only lawyers with the appropriate license could act in such a capacity.
Article 750 of the Administrative Offenses Code also mentions legal consultants.
This article regulates the replacement of defense attorneys and payment for their services. The changes also affected the articles concerning their liability for administrative offenses — consultants are now also listed.
Qasym-Jomart Toqayev signed the law amending the Administrative Offenses Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan on January 10.
