press service of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic / Sultan Dosaliev
President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov detailed in an interview with "Kabar" how the long-standing border dispute between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan was resolved, reports Orda.kz.
Japarov noted that the border issue is practically resolved, and bilateral documentary procedures are underway. After completing all stages, the documents must be ratified by the parliaments of both countries.
The final step will be signing an agreement by the Presidents of both states.
After completion of all these procedures, demarcation work will begin, which will take another 1-2 years. Only then can the process be considered fully complete, emphasized Sadyr Japarov.
The Kyrgyz President also addressed the disputed territories and houses.
According to him, in such cases, residents who have crossed into the other country's territory will be relocated: the Tajik side will resettle their citizens, and the Kyrgyz side - their own.
People will be provided with housing in new areas, considering the size of their lands.
In resolving border issues between the two countries, unilateral benefit is impossible. A solution is only possible when the interests of both sides are taken into account, added Sadyr Japarov.
Japarov emphasized that residents of border villages will soon be able to receive complete information about the agreement details when demarcation work begins.
The dispute over the Kyrgyz-Tajik border is related to unresolved territorial issues dating back to Soviet times.
After the collapse of the USSR, the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, with a total length of about 970 kilometers, was not fully delimited and demarcated.
In recent years, armed clashes have repeatedly occurred on the border.
