Over the weekend, the Instagram accounts of journalist Vadim Boreiko and activist Sanzhar Bokayev saw all of their posts deleted. The account of journalist Askhat Niyazov has also become unavailable. Human rights activist Bakhytzhan Toregozhina reported the incident on her Instagram page, Orda.kz reports.

Vadim Boreiko wrote on Facebook that all content from his Instagram profile disappeared on Saturday. He said he can still log into the account, but the page is now empty.

He noted that the same thing happened to his TikTok account last year. According to Boreiko, Instagram and Facebook have also been periodically removing his older posts in recent months, citing what he described as “mythical violations.”

Journalist Askhat Niyazov has previously faced social media blocks. Last autumn, he was detained by police after a dispute with the Almaty Akimat.

Activist Sanzhar Bokayev, known for publishing videos about corruption and for his outspoken criticism of recycling fees, also discovered that all posts on his Instagram page had been deleted.

At the end of October, Orda’s editor-in-chief, Gulnara Bazhkenova, also saw her Facebook page disabled after the platform claimed she was “impersonating someone else.”
