Former Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Andriy Parubiy Shot Dead in Lviv

Former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy was shot five times in Lviv’s Sykhiv district on August 30, according to Ukrainska Pravda.
Parubiy was also once the secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.
He died at the scene from his injuries.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Parubiy’s death in a statement on Facebook:
I have just been informed of the first circumstances of the killing in Lviv. Andriy Parubiy has died. I extend my condolences to his family and loved ones. All necessary forces and resources have been mobilized to investigate and find the killer.
Parubiy was a prominent figure in Ukrainian politics over the past two decades, rising from commandant of the Maidan camp in 2014 to serving as Speaker of Parliament between 2016 and 2019.
He had previously survived an assassination attempt when a grenade was thrown at him during protests.
Police are investigating the killing and have appealed to Lviv residents for any information.
The suspect was reportedly dressed in a Glovo food delivery uniform and fled the scene on an electric bicycle.
