Several former Taraz city officials have gone on trial for allegedly stealing state property, Orda.kz reports.
The defendants include Zhenis Parimbekov, the former head of the finance department who recently served as chair of Taraz's territorial election commission; officials Moldazhan Absatov and Zhanibek Kuanyshev; and Maksat Nurzhanov, the former deputy head of the housing and communal services department who has a previous bribery conviction.
Investigators say the accused exploited gaps in the confiscated property accounting system to forge documents and illegally transfer commercial real estate and consumer goods.
These assets had been handed over to the city administration through court orders. The scheme reportedly caused over 100 million tenge in damages.
Parimbekov, Nurzhanov, and Absatov face fraud charges and large-scale embezzlement under Articles 190 and 189 of Kazakhstan's Criminal Code. Kuanyshev is charged as an accomplice.
All defendants remain in custody.
