Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu participated in the 17th BRICS summit, presenting the country’s position as an official partner of the organization, Orda.kz reports, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his address, Nurtleu emphasized Kazakhstan’s support for the principles of the UN Charter and international law, advocating for a fair and inclusive global order.

He highlighted Astana’s interest in deepening economic ties with BRICS countries and expanding cooperation in digital development.

“Kazakhstan pursues a balanced, multi-vector foreign policy — we build bridges, not walls, and we value partnerships with all nations,” he said.

The summit, held on July 6 in Brazil, brought together leaders and representatives of both BRICS members and newly named partner countries. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan were among the ten states granted official BRICS partner status.

Earlier, Kazakh Presidential Spokesperson Berik Uali had confirmed that Kazakhstan had received invitations to join BRICS. In a May 2025 interview with Al Jazeera, President Qasym-Jomart Tokayev explained the country’s cautious approach:

BRICS currently lacks a charter, a secretariat, and a defined structure. We want to understand its effectiveness before committing fully. For now, we are content with observer status,
he said, adding that the decision was based on strategic assessment, not external pressure.
