Caspian Pipeline Consortium Reports Drone Attack on Marine Terminal

The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) has reported a serious incident at its Black Sea marine terminal — an offshore mooring system was hit by drones early on November 29, Orda.kz reports.

Port authorities in Novorossiysk halted all loading operations immediately, and tankers were moved out of the area. There were no injuries among personnel or contractors. Automated safety systems shut down the oil pipeline, and no leakage into the sea has been detected.

CPC stated that further use of the SPM-2 unit is currently impossible, and oil loading will resume only after the terminal’s security and operability are restored.

The consortium includes major energy companies from Russia, the United States, Kazakhstan, and several Western European states.

We believe the attack on the CPC is also a blow to the interests of the member states of the alliance. We emphasize that this is the third act of aggression against a purely civilian facility protected by international law. The Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station was previously attacked, and the CPC administrative office in Novorossiysk was damaged, the CPC press service noted.

The CPC system transports crude from three major Kazakh fields — Tengiz, Kashagan, and Karachaganak.

In 2024, throughput reached roughly 63 million tonnes of oil, of which around 74% was shipped by foreign producers, including Tengizchevroil (Chevron), ExxonMobil, KazMunayGas, Eni, and Shell.
