By the end of 2025, 22,000 new CCTV cameras will be installed across Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana, akim Zhenis Kasymbek announced on October 29. The new system will record significantly more data than the existing Sergek network, Orda.kz reports.

According to the akim, the project will be financed entirely through private investment from a consortium that includes the international technology firm Presight.

The total investment volume amounts to 53 billion tenge.

These aren’t just video surveillance cameras. These cameras offer advanced analytics — they can identify people and vehicle license plates. They also recognize other details that older cameras simply recorded without providing complete information,
Kasymbek explained during a meeting with residents.

City police note that about one-third of all street crimes in the capital are currently solved with the help of CCTV. The new system aims to raise that rate to 50%. The project is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

Kasymbek also addressed the renovation of the former TsUM building near the city administration, where the new control center for the system will be located:

Not a single penny of budget funds is being spent on this renovation. It’s being carried out by the consortium that’s implementing the project,
 he added.

The akim noted that a significant portion of the new cameras will be installed in the Urker residential area.
