Kazakhstan has raised the threshold for mandatory potato sales through commodity exchanges from 60 to 1000 tons, Orda.kz reports.
After complaints from farmers, the authorities revised the new trading rules for potatoes. Under the previous requirements, producers had to sell batches larger than 60 tons only through commodity exchanges.
According to APK Novosti, farmers said this meant extra costs, more complicated procedures and additional risks. They also warned that the new rules could affect the final price of potatoes.
Now only batches of 1000 tons or more must be sold through exchanges. The industry publication says a lower threshold was discussed at first, but in the end officials approved a more favorable option for farmers.
