Major General Ruslan Seisenbayev has been appointed to lead Shymkent's National Security Committee (KNB) department, Orda reports.
While the KNB press service has not officially announced the appointment, it was confirmed on the committee's website.
Seisenbayev, who previously served as the committee's deputy chairman and head of its anti-terror service, was removed from these positions last September during a broader reorganization of security forces.
A career security officer since 1997, he has led various regional departments since 2008 and was promoted to major general shortly before the January events.
