Director and actor Rustem Omarov has reconnected with audiences after his Instagram account was unblocked three weeks later, Orda.kz reports.
Omarov took the situation lightly, responding with irony to those who accused him of seeking attention:
"I came back for PR and unblocked for PR. And I live for PR anyway. But seriously, thanks to everyone for their support," he wrote.
In mid-October, the Kazakh series “Offside” was removed from YouTube following comments by Majilis deputy Kudaibergen Beksultanov, who criticized domestic shows for excessive profanity and mentioned projects involving Omarov.
Shortly after, the series’ official page was also blocked.
Our esteemed deputy said we're not allowed to swear. You need to watch other TV shows, respected Ağa (term in Kazakh used to reference men one's senoir - Ed.) I didn't vote for you, and I doubt anyone else did,
the director said at the time.
Offside is a sports drama about a former football star’s struggle to restore fairness and integrity to a sports world plagued by corruption, match-fixing, and political pressure.
Meanwhile, the Majilis is debating potential restrictions on TV series containing profanity, violence, and abductions. Some deputies and cultural figures warn that such censorship could stifle artistic freedom.
