At the final press conference of the 22nd international meeting on Syria in the “Astana format,” the guarantor countries agreed to hold the next meeting in Astana, Orda.kz reports.
Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Bakayev read out a joint statement by representatives of the guarantor countries of the Astana format – Iran, Russia and Türkiey:
The guarantor countries noted the agreement, enshrined in the final statement of the trilateral summit on July 19, 2022, to organize a summit in the Russian Federation. They agreed to hold the 23rd International Meeting on Syria in Astana in the first half of 2025.
The guarantor countries also jointly condemned attempts by any country to incite terrorist and separatist aspirations of individual ethnic and religious groups, as well as attempts to supply them with weapons.
Iran, Russia, and Türkiye have called Israel's actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and the West Bank "aggression" and "criminal attacks."
The guarantor countries have expressed condemnation and deep concern over this.
The meeting participants also noted Kazakhstan's unique role as the host country for the international meetings on Syria. Kazakhstan stood at the origins of the Astana process, invariably providing its platform and showing hospitality for the successful functioning of this unique multilateral mechanism.
On October 9, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Vershinin confirmed that the 22nd International Meeting on Syria will be held in Astana, not in Russia.
