Activist Suspected of Embezzling Funds Raised for Flood Relief

The Financial Monitoring Agency is investigating a case against activist and founder of a charity foundation Perizat Kairat, Orda.kz reports.
She is suspected of embezzling more than 1.5 billion tenge collected to help people affected by the spring floods.
According to the investigation, Kairat misappropriated most of this money.
The collected funds were spent on luxury items and real estate. Perizat Kairat purchased several expensive cars this spring, including a Mercedes-Benz S450 for 88 million tenge, a Lexus LX-600 for 80 million, and a Haval for 39 million tenge.
She also bought luxury real estate in Astana: apartments in the Aqbulaq Riviera, Highvill Ishim Gold, Kok Jailau residential complexes, and a house in the Vela Village cottage village.
Kairat regularly vacationed in Dubai, Doha, London, and Istanbul, staying in expensive hotels such as the St. Regis, Shangri-La, Palazzo Versace, and Kempinski. During her trips, she bought jewelry and accessories from Cartier and Louis Vuitton, visited expensive restaurants, and rented yachts for sea cruises.
To withdraw the money, Perizat allegedly recruited her friends and relatives, who cashed the fund’s money and received eight percent.
