Bribery Case: Former Shymkent Judge Requested Open Jury Trial

Preliminary hearings on the case of former judge Zhanat Musirali were held in Shymkent, Orda.kz reports.
The former judge faces fraud and incitement to bribery charges. The sum in question is 110 million tenge.
According to the investigation, Musirali promised a defendant's wife a lighter sentence for this money.
Lawyer Murat Dzhakhaev and businessman Aidar Altayev are also under investigation.
We learned that Zhanat Musirali motioned for the case to be heard by a jury. However, the other two defendants opposed it.
The trial will take place in the specialized inter-district criminal court of Shymkent. The main hearing is scheduled for January 5, 2025.
Zhanat Musirali and Aidar Altayev are under house arrest, and Murat Dzhakhayev is being held in a pre-trial detention center. The case will be heard in an open court session in the state language with the participation of the prosecutor, the defendants, their lawyers and the witnesses listed in the indictment,
the court materials specify.
Zhanat Musirali, 51, was a Shymkent Interdistrict Criminal Court judge.
In August 2024, she unexpectedly resigned.
Musirali is known from a high-profile case in 2023.
She heard the case of a bus driver who fatally hit six people and sentenced the defendant to five years.
