Uzbek President Meets EU Leaders Ahead of Regional Summit in Samarkand

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a series of meetings in Samarkand with leaders of the European Union ahead of the upcoming "Central Asia – European Union" summit, Orda reports, citing Gazeta.uz.
On the evening of April 2, Mirziyoyev met informally with the President of the European Council, António Costa. The two exchanged views on current issues related to bilateral and regional cooperation.
Preparations for the inaugural "Central Asia – European Union" summit were among the key topics discussed.
On April 3, President Mirziyoyev also held talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who arrived in Samarkand the night before. The two leaders discussed prospects for deepening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EU.
They also reviewed plans for the interregional summit and a climate forum scheduled to take place on April 4.
