The Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition has won a lawsuit against Zhezkazgan-Air, Orda.kz reports.

The court ruled that the airline violated antitrust laws by inflating jet fuel prices.

The audit covered the period from November 2022 to May 2023. It was determined that the company received 276.7 million tenge in revenue from the sale of jet fuel, 22.9 million of which was monopoly revenue,
the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition stated.

Zhezkazgan-Air initially contested the findings in court. In November 2024, the court of first instance ruled in favor of the airline, overturning the agency’s decision.

However, in March 2025, the appellate court reversed that ruling and supported the agency. The company then filed another appeal, but the cassation court upheld the appellate decision.

The case materials have now been transferred to the Financial Monitoring Agency for possible criminal proceedings.

Zhezkazgan-Air is owned by Kazakhmys Corporation, which also holds ownership of Zhezkazgan Airport.

Previously, antitrust investigations were also launched in Oskemen and Aqtau, focusing on potential price manipulation in aviation fuel storage and sales services.
